Transformative Learning
My basic views and experiences have developed over the last 4 years both in complexity and nuances to support student learning, inclusion of students in learning communities and stimulating them to greater cognition, learning and maturity.
In 2019 I learned about Transformative learning. First in Professor Trond Gansmo Jakobsens class Sustainable society - new perspectives on development, education, people and the environment and later the same year I got a scholarship to go to Costa Rica and the University of Peace where I participated in a 40 hour long course 2019 Education, Ethics, & Values for Sustainability-Transformative Teaching and Learning with the Earth Charter and learned about the global Initiative and ethical framework: The Earth Charter. This programme offered an opportunity to deepen my understanding on the concept of sustainable development and its implications for education, learning, and change. It explored practical methods for introducing sustainability values into educational settings, and used the Earth Charter as an essential foundation for sustainability. Inspiring and knowledgeable teachers in Professor emeritus Dr. Sam Crowell and Professor Mirian Vilela.
Since then I am working to address knowledge, issues, perspectives, skills, and values central to sustainable development and integrate them into the curriculum at our department. (UNESCO Sourcebook for ESD, 2012)
